Negombo is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka and it is the largest city in Gampaha District. Negombo is also the administrative capital centre of the Negombo Division. About the destination: The two adjacent resorts, Beruwela and Bentota, located on the southwest coast, serve as the hub of tourism in Sri Lanka and are divided by the Bentota River. This river forms a type of lagoon near the coast, offering optimal conditions for windsurfing and sailing. The region boasts some of the island's most beautiful beaches. A protective coral reef lines the coast, making it safe for swimming even when the sea is rough. Local life can be observed at the fish market in the small town of Aluthgama, situated between the two resorts. The southern railway line runs close to the coastline, and the sound of trains can occasionally be heard from some hotels. The best time to visit the west coast is from November to April. Travelers can reach the area via land transfer from Colombo (Bandaranaike airport).
