Otavalo is a city located in the Andean highlands of the Imbabura province, north of Ecuador. It is encircled by volcanoes, including the Imbabura volcano. The city is famous for its Otavalo market situated in the central Plaza de Ponchos, where locals, dressed in traditional indigenous attire, sell vibrant textiles and crafts. The El Obraje Textiles Museum, which showcases textile exhibits and fabric demonstrations, is located nearby. Close to the city is Peguche, one of the many neighboring villages renowned for its traditional fabrics. On the outskirts of Peguche, amidst the eucalyptus trees, lies the Peguche Waterfall. This location was deemed sacred during the Inca era and is now a popular picnic spot. The Condor Park, a bird sanctuary and home to Andean condors and owls, is situated near this site. North of Otavalo is the city of Cotacachi, recognized for its leather goods. The trails along the banks of Lake Cuicocha, a lake formed from a crater, offer panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.
